Made in USA.
We need a bunch of humans doing the little things in everyday life, thats where the difference is.
Olio's Solid Dish Washing bar soap is made of all-natural ingredients and organic oils.
Made in USA.
Leave No Trace: Even biodegradable soaps and cleansers shouldn't be used in a natural water source. To wash yourself, your laundry or your dishes, carry water 200 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap (a little goes a long way). Then pour wastewater into a cat hole 6 to 8 inches deep.
We use old utensils, eco-friendly tin containers for plates and wash clothes for "napkins". Coolers of water allow for a quick wash and rinse of not only dishes but your hands, rags and gaiters.
Olio's match stick style tin of soaps is ideal for one single use. One match stick is a lovely outdoor shower! Match sticks can be broke in half for just a single use hand washing.
Olio's team are responsible, active humans. Striving to keep the earth as clean as possible while we're on it. We love being tagged in your #oliooutdoor adventures.

Some people use raw cocoa butter on their skin. In raw form, it is very hard and would need to be melted or at the least softened to make it spreadable on skin. Mixing it with other oils and butters helps it perform better. Some cocoa butter comes deodorized, processed to remove the natural scent. Not ours! It makes our bar soap smell divine, especially when you get to the middle of the bar!
Cocoa Butter shows up in a lot of mass produced skin and body care products. To find out if a product is clean, you must always check the ingredients. Body product labels are regulated, not the contents! We hope this changes in time.
Olio uses organic, raw cocoa butter in our soaps and body butter. Our body butter is made to scoop some out, warm in the palm of your hand and rub it to return it to an oil. This makes this hydrating, buttery spread more evenly. Cocoa Butter is fine for most people to use on their face. However, some skin types may feel clogged after using it on their face.

We do. Full fat, organic, non-gmo, gluten free, artificial colors and preservative free, coconut milk.
We know coconuts and coconut milks are gluten free naturally, but gluten shows up in funny places sometimes, including body products. So every once in a while we like to remind you that our products are gluten free.
Coconut Milk is a fantastic dairy alternative for everything from smoothies, baking to skin care. Rich and creamy in consistency, highly nutritious and rich in vitamins C, E, B1, B5 and minerals including iron, selenium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. Coconut milk contains a significant amount of fat, great for skin, fine lines and de-hydrated, itchy dermal layers. Coconut milk contains lauric acid, an anti-viral compound, which keeps small blemishes, pimples and small skin infections at bay with daily use.
Introducing Olio's coconut milk soaps:
1. Coconut Milk and Honey bar - using local honey by Keeper of the Bee. Honey has anti-microbial benefits for the skin as well as being a humectant. Unscented, un fragranced.
2. Coconut Milk and Lime Bar - Organic limes freshly juiced.
3. Coconut Milk Cedar Rosemary Bar - Cedar and rosemary essential oils, not fragrance oils, mixed with rhassoul and French green clay.
4. Coconut Milk Shampoo Bar - A hydrating shampoo bar, unscented. Lightweight wearing, great for curly hair. Wet your hair. Wet the bar. Bring the bar right to your hair and give a few gentle scrubs.
We would love to know which of these are your favorites.

]]>We have missed chatting with you all about what is going on, current events and the local buzzzzzz! We have some fun stuff going on over here with no one to tell haha!! So blog post time.
Olio started to self quarantine early, concerned about the quality and contamination of the product, raw ingredients and general health of the only 2 employees. Having soap available helped us greatly, keeping our website running along with non-contact pick-ups options for locals. Watching local companies pivot and adapt was amazing, we learned a thing or two from you guys.
OlioSkin.com now has a working IN STORE Pick Up option at checkout. Takes the shipping off and lets us know you'll be by to pick up your order.
The Sharing Place is a fantastic grief organization here in SLC. We are honored to be apart of their 2020 Mother's Day event of pouring candles to honor the light of all mothers out there, near and far. If you would like to participate via zoom to share mom's light, register here to reserve your candle pouring kit. A zoom link will be emailed to you for the event.
A few Olio products are now being offered through Hand Sown Homegrown's website! We are excited for this for 2 reasons: First: How exciting to have access to locally bio-dynamically grown greens! We can feel our brain turn on when we eat Jared's greens. Second: We sold with Jared of Hand Sown Homegrown at his very first market and we are proud, as fellow business owners, to see how far he has come. Keep up the great work Jared!
When this whole Covid kicked in, we got right to work. We started communicating with our small business friends and community to create some exciting collaborations to cheer people up and help spread the love. We now have a COLLABORATION section on our website (OlioSkin.com) for your viewing pleasure. We are so proud of these collaborations! They are the result of many years of hard work, passion, people connecting and compromising, willing forward some fantastic bundles worth celebration.
Without spoiling the collaboration bundles, we wanted to talk about the companies are are bundling with (all i hear is "bundle and save" lol). We wanted to provoke a smile for people, so we made a colorful soap smelling of tropical ripe banana, vanilla and pineapple and named it Monkey Farts. We called up Catherine of Honeysuckle Handmade Studio to see if she could create an earrings version of this soap and boy did she ever! Then, Bohemian Baklava said she could put the tropical taste into baklava and we were so happy!! Out of 10 sets, there are only 4 left!
We have a self-care collaboration with Nil Organic Tea, whom we talk about frequently and adore. Kim curated a bundle with a few of her favorite goodies to send to Mom for Mother's Day, or anyone in need of a little extra love. The Peace from Anxiety self-care package sold out within 40 hours of when it was first released. It's thoughtfully curated with some essentials that anyone would love and use. The deluxe package offers more tea, which lets be honest, is the most exciting part. We love Nil's tea for drinking and soaping.
Our relationship with The Hex Press goes back years also and we love Anna's detailed, perfectionist printing skills. Olio is frequently dressed in her prints. We've paired some of her work with honey from Keeper of the Bee in a beeautiful pack to gift or keep.
People have been asking for soap trays and soap savers for years. With the help of Keith of Iron Rose Collection, we believe the perfect solution as been invented! We are SO excited to post this particular pairing and explain why material of the tray is so fantastic.
Olio supports the arts and have cool projects going on with a few local artists. Cat Palmer of CatPalmer.com has handmade a set of 4 beautiful coasters, backed with cork (none of that cheap stuff here) for us to bundle with local goodies.
The work of Ash Lune compliments our plant based product line perfectly with her line of hand-drawn cards featuring botanicals and herbs. Snail mail on a quality material stock with all words scripted smoothly brings art to recipients, filling their home with small reminiscences of how loved they are. Watch for the bundle featuring her greeting cards.
That's the bulk of it for now. If you have any specific questions, we would love to hear from you! Contact us through one of the social networks or our website, OlioSkin.com.
Stay healthy and positive! See you all soon.

Olio is made by humans, Derek and Jen, who are going through these tough times just like you are. Like so many people, we want to help. So we've been thinking how we could help, that could actually help. We have a sale going on our website of 20% off almost everything, including soap. We've never put soap on sale before.
We've also asked ourselves what we can offer/suggest that could help respiratory issues and tea tree came to mind. Traditionally, tea tree essential oil has been used to treat respiratory problems through inhalation, as well as cuts and scrapes with topical application. Ten drops of tea tree essential oil in a pot of boiling water can relieve congestion, sinus blockage and opening of your lungs.
Aromatherapy is the practice of inhaling the scent of essential oils to improve your well-being. One theory of how they work is that by stimulating the smell receptors in your nose, they can send messages to your nervous system. They are also thought to have a subtle effect on the body’s chemical and energy systems. Because of this, aromatherapy is often used as a natural remedy to relieve anxiety and stress.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t regulate essential oils, so be diligent in your practice. You should only use therapeutic-grade oils that don’t contain synthetic fragrance. Olio's essential oils are pure, therapeutic grade, not diluted or thinned.
We sell all essential oils on our website and get all orders placed before 3pm shipped same day.
Our in-house made cold-process soap is really the better choice for cleaning skin. Anytime we shower or bathe, we have a choice of what to use to clean our skin. Using Olio's cold-process soap will completely clean your hands and body everyday.
Moisturizing is important after all the cleansing. Olio's Face & Body Oil will give long lasting, natural relief. Use Olio's Face & Body oil anytime you wash your hands. Like lotion, the oil works best with just cleaned, warm hands. You will need a lot less oil than lotion. Rub the oil into your just washed, clean hands that just had warm water running over it.
Our Face & Body oil have cleansing oils in it, the essential oils are cleansing! We don't use a synthetic fragrance, we use essential oils, carrying cleansing qualities.

Cold Process soap is best when its cured for a month or longer. That's why we have started our holiday soaps in the shop already. Longer cured bars are harder, longer lasting bars!
We've got a new beard oil scent being release next week! We mixed up a new blend with notes of bergamot, lemon, orange, black tea leaves, star jasmine, white cedarwood and peppermint. We held a scent smelling party and had everyone write down their name for the beard oil. Our long time supporter, Josh Pace won the contest with the name of Kingsman! We put it up for vote on Facebook and boy it was so close to the name Explorer! Josh gets 6 months of beard oil for naming that scent for us!
We've updated our Retailers Page on the website (OlioSkin.com). We are so excited to be stocked at the only all local store in the Gateway, the Salt & Honey Market! A whole store dedicated to the wares and goods of local artists. If you haven't been into Salt & Honey Market in the Gateway, stop in this month and get some local Christmas gifts stashed!
Olio is looking for new marketing content. We are willing to work with local companies to get our brand to the next level. We've begun working with some local influencers and brand ambassadors. Hoping to up our website game.
We've also implemented an online code for our locals who want to pick their order up instead of paying for shipping and handling. Code "InStorePickUp" get the S&H off your total.
We wouldn't be here without people! Very itchy, dry people lol. We appreciate all the support.

We offer bulk ordering, custom ordering and ready to package soap bars now.
We've implemented this bulk ordering on our website in the form of a drop down option when ordering. You are always welcome to email us with questions or for information at Info@OlioSkin.com.
Olio hand-makes all their cold process premium bars on-site, checking quality control through the whole process. Our popular, well-round recipe comes from years of understanding what each oil and butter contributes to a luscious, lathery bar of soap. Each and every bar contains raw organic shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil and full fat olive oil. You'll recognize skin loving ingredients like jojoba oil, hemp oil, unprocessed salts, therapeutic grade essential oils through out the entire plant based Olio line of body products.
Our shampoo bars are specifically formulated to clean and condition hair, without SLS or harsh detergent. Olio shampoo bar recipe is different from the face and body bars, a lighter wearing hydration for our hair and scalp, but all Olio bars can be used for shampoo, shaving and for face and body.
Whether you're looking to have soap made to meet your needs, or want to white label, we can make the quality product you're expecting.

]]>Dry brushing, body brushing and wet brushing are all ways to brush your skin. Why brush our skin you ask?
Dry brushing removes a lot of dead skin cells. Have you experienced the dry skin feeling with season changes? People tell us their skin is so dry it looks scaly! A session of dry brushing will not only reveal your younger skin but your body oils will sink in better.
This is the natural approach to shedding dead skin cells that are hitching a ride and making you look like major of dry town. Maybe dry brush your legs outside for the first time. Its amazing to see how much dead dry skin comes off. This is not damaging to skin. If you brush too hard it could hurt. Be gentle with yourselves people, but get a good brushing in.
After one week of dry brushing, we noticed the appearance of our skin was looking a bit more healthy. Feeling smoother and tighter. Just one week helps remove a lot of dead skin which opens pores, exposes blocked pores and detoxifies.
Its common to feel little raised bumps on your skin after a good dry brush session. Under layers of dead skin were trapped hairs and dirt, waiting to come out.
We offer Introduction to dry brushing classes to answer all the questions on where to find a brush and what kind of brush use. Check out OlioSkin.com for educational classes on skin care, soap making, gentleman grooming and other fun stuff that we feel like we should know but have never discussed.
Stay tuned for when we touch on body brushing and wet brushing.

Olio Skin Care and Beard Company began in 2009 with a Wife/Husband team determined to bring the passion of skin care to as many folks who would listen.
The reality that skin and body care can, and should, be clean and non-toxic, (after all, it is the largest eliminative organ we have), was still foreign to most. Education is everything! Becoming educated on the skins functions, purpose and needs was the turning point in time for us!
Loyal frequenters of all the local farmers markets (specifically Wheeler Farm and SLC Downtown Farmer Market), we saw the opportunity to bring our ideas to market to see if people liked what we were doing. We knew that with a good product, a solid foundation and lots of hard work, Salt Lake would support. And boy did Salt Lake support!
Our motto so eloquently written by Jennifer Smith
We do good for your skin. We do good for your planet. We do nature-based, vegan products Hand-crafted in small batches By folks with giant hearts. Made from the freshest, rawest, most organic ingredients. Created in the most eco conscious, sustainable, and responsible way. We believe that ‘artificial’ is a four letter word, And protecting the environment is a life-long endeavor. We stand for preserving our lands And against preservatives in our products. We use unprocessed sea salts, Plant based oils, And therapeutic grade essential oils. That soothe, heal and replenish skin. Then we package it up in UV protective, Tinted glass bottles and jars That are easily recycled or reused. Because we want to make a positive impact Instead of a carbon footprint. And change the way you feel On the outside as well as within.

]]>We believe in oils. Vitamin Oils and therapeutic grade essential oils. Each has their own job in caring for your skin.
1. Olio Citrus Cleansing Oil - Rich in Coconut oil, this is a great cleansing oil, dissolving dirt, sebum and grim. When you wipe your face after cleaning with a warm cloth, the washcloth takes off all the dirty oil off (that dissolved the dirt [and make-up] from your skin). This is a non-soap option for cleaning skin. The antibacterial and antiseptic properties of the citrus oils disinfect into the skin and pores.
Wet your skin. Pour about 1 tsp of Olio Citrus Cleansing Oil in your palm. Work Olio's Citrus Cleansing Oil into a milky emulsion. Massaging this oil into your skin will start a reaction that you can not see happening with your eyes. I think this is why people have a hard time wrapping their mind around skin care, because we cant see the oils flushing out our pores at that specific moment.
Like absorbs like, so the cleaning oil you have massaged around your face and body, has dissolved and absorbed dirty body sebum, toxins and free radicals into the cleansing oil.

She showed us the ritual of dry-brushing our skin for purification, removal of dead skin cells and detox. She said dry-brushing is great for dry, itchy skin. Here in Utah where there is hard water, our skin gets a mineral build up on it which makes it difficult for our moisturizer to work deeply. Maybe some people will feel their skin and be reminded to get dry-brushing!
Jennifer said dry-brushing can be done daily, preferably in the morning. Stand in your bath or shower, then gently brush skin in an upward motion, toward the heart, starting at the feet and hands and brushing upwards. Avoid delicate skin on the face, neck and chest areas. After brushing, bathe or shower as usual, then use Olio's all-natural, plant-based Face & Body Oil to moisturize. Keep your dry brush in a cool, dry place, away from the shower or bath. Once a week, rinse your brush with cool water and hang to dry.

Our skin comes in contact with an average of 12 products in the morning. Every day use of soap, body scrub, lotion, face cleanser, toner, night cream, shave cream, after shave, sunscreen, make-up and deodorant.
If you know Olio, you've heard us say "Your skin eats". It absorbs things. Things that go into our body and blood stream. Need a better visual? Think nicotine patch or hormone patches... there ya go, now you see the trans dermal penetration in action.
All topical substances can either penetrate or affect the skin's surface in some way. Do you know what is coming in touch with your skin everyday and how each ingredient affects you? Think Twinkies vs Salad, fake vs. real, mass produced vs. whole.

Beard hair is coarse, rough and scratchy. Ask anyone who's been intimate with a beard and they will tell you the experience could be different if the hair was softer.
Beard Oil is called beard oil so people know where to use it. The blend of oils in a beard oil are generally light weight and quick absorbing. The blend of oils we use in our Olio Beard and Face Oil is proprietary, the knowledge of oils allows us to blend our oils successfully. Our beard oil blend is light weight, quick absorbing and hand-blended for the climate we are in.
The difference in beard oil (and skincare) comes down to the ingredients. Too often the product is taken for its face value and the ingredients are not even considered. Yes, its something else to learn. But you will get the hang of it and be better educated for it. Start asking questions and talking to your vendors. You say you cant talk to the Dove vendor? You say you can't reach a human at MAC to take responsibility for the ingredients? Well, Derek and I are here in the shop to talk, answer questions, demo and take responsibility for the products we make.
Beard Oils (ingredient providing) can be used for many other applications. A beard Oil can be used as a hair and scalp oil. I promise you will not grow a beard out of the top of your head. Massage some beard oil into your scalp and sleep in it. Wash the next morning and feel the relief of a hydrated scalp.
Beard Oil can be used on eyebrows, crows feet and any other delicate areas that would benefit from a quick absorbing dose of vitamins.

Body odor is normal and fluctuates with what we put into our body, ie: garlic and onions WILL cause a chemical reaction that will come in the form of body odor, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Sweat is not the smelly part, it's the bacteria that the sweat mixes with that causes odor, so the ingredients in the following recipe not only help absorb dampness but are also anti-bacterial!
RECIPE
1 tsp Arrowroot powder
1 tsp Cornstarch
1/2 tsp Zeolite clay
1/2 tsp Baking soda (do a test on a small patch of skin - not all skin types work with baking soda!)
5 drops essential oil (good ones for odor control: Lavender, tea tree, frankincense)
Mix all ingredients into a bowl. Store in a jar.
Regularly scheduled self-care can keep odor to a minimum. "Drink lots of water and regularly dry-brush your skin to constantly rid your body of toxins."

]]>The list of culprits that can cause dry skin is a long one, from daily bathing habits (think hot showers and scrubbing yourself dry with a towel) and wicked winter weather to a lack of natural oils in your skin as you age.
The good news is that you don’t necessarily need to visit a dermatologist to heal your dry skin. Instead, consider adding a natural remedy to your skin care routine at home. In fact, the ingredients for these dry-skin remedies might already be in your kitchen.
Time to say goodbye to conventional moisturizers. Face oils have become a beauty cabinet staple, thanks to their natural ability to hydrate and nourish a variety of skin types.
Despite what their name might imply, face oils won’t leave your face oily. And no, they will not make you break out! Best of all, they are packed with good-for-you ingredients such as fatty acids and antioxidants, to help reduce inflammation and give skin a dewy glow.
Whether you are looking to eliminate redness, stop irritation from acne or rosacea, plump skin, or simply moisturize, read on to find the best natural oils for your skin.
Face oils may be one of the best-kept beauty secrets, as makeup artists and celebrities have been using them to smooth and soothe skin on set. These oils absorb into the skin quickly, providing instant moisture with a finish that isn’t greasy. As a huge plus, these high-quality natural remedies are extremely budget-friendly compared to many skin products on the market. So next time you’re shopping for new skin care products, why not try something different?
Best for: Dry, sensitive, or irritated skin
Best for: Very dry skin
What it is: Olive oil is a good all-around natural moisturizer and is recommended for dehydrated skin. It's super rich in fatty acids and vitamin E. Like jojoba oil, olive oil is similar to the oils naturally produced by our skin and so is absorbed well into the skin. It typically does not cause allergies, but because it's a heavier oil, those with acne should avoid using it on their face. Studies also show that the antioxidant content in olive oil may help protect against skin cancer.
Best for: all skin types
What it is: Extracted from nuts of the Moroccan argan tree, this oil is a soothing and powerful moisturizer for all skin types.
Why it works: Argan Oil is packed with vitamin E, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. It’s light enough to use as an everyday, non-greasy moisturizer, but it can also be used to treat those with more severe skin conditions, such as eczema or rosacea. Thanks to its antioxidant properties, argan oil works to improve skin’s elasticity by fending off free radical damage, leaving skin radiant.
How to use: This oil is not just for dry skin — it can also help control oil production by reducing sebum for those with oilier skin. This nourishing oil can be used daily under makeup or at night for a more restorative skin conditioning treatment. It’s also suitable for use on dry hair and nails.
What it is: This powerful skin nourisher is one of the top antiaging oils. It’s extracted via a cold-press method from the seeds of a specific rose variety, predominantly grown in Chile.
Why it works: This oil is rich in essential fatty acids and contains vitamins E, C, D, and beta carotene. Chock-full of goodness, it helps to protect and hydrate skin, fight free radical damage, and reduce wrinkles. But that’s not all! The vitamins and antioxidants rejuvenate the skin to restore elasticity, help to correct dark spots, and reduce the appearance of scars.
How to use: Because it is considered a “dry” oil, Rose hip seed oil soaks easily into the skin. It can be used in conjunction with other oils or lotions as an intensive moisturizing and anti-aging treatment.
Jojoba oil
What it is: Extracted from plants indigenous to North America, jojoba oil is used for everything from acne to psoriasis to sunburn. But it isn’t really an oil at all, but a botanical extract actually comprised of liquid wax esters. This is important because out of all compounds found in nature, jojoba oil is structurally and chemically the most similar to human sebum, meaning it mimics the structure of the skin.
Why it works: Because jojoba oil is similar to our skin’s structure, it can replicate or dissolve oil, depending if your skin over-produces or under-produces. Thus, it can help balance out sebum production and eliminate acne. Comprised of beneficial minerals and nutrients, jojoba oil also works as an emollient to soothe skin and provide all-day moisture.
How to use: A few drops can be used for those with oily complexions in the morning or at night, to moisturize and help balance out skin tone. It’s also a great alternative to body lotion for those who have sensitive skin. When used as a hair treatment, jojoba oil may help with dandruff and promote a healthy scalp.
]]>We had free shipping for a while. Then postage rates went up. We had a difficult time going from Free Shipping to Free Shipping over $15. Wanting to keep customers happy and also wanting to cover on our end.
Natural Skin Care is priced as a luxury item compared to mass produced grocery store brands. We've had people ask us "If Olio is so good, how come its not more expensive?", blows our mind. Its the same with our food system right now. Poison is cheap ad the real food, real ingredients cost so much.
Olio is run and managed by two humans. Not spreadsheets and CEO's and sales. We have feelings and understand how it feels to be a consumer. It BOTHERS us to charge too much. We aren't trying to get rich, we are trying to cause people to think of their skin as an organ, not just a suit that holds our bones in. Our motive is education and human connection.
It takes a team, and you are part of our team. How would you handle increased shipping rates?
